Hardware/driver related questions:

Q: The application does not start or crashes, what can I do?
A: Crashes are often related to missing or outdated graphics drivers. Please always install the latest official graphic drivers from the Nvidia or AMD webpage.

Q: Are integrated GPUs such as Intel HD Graphics supported?
A: Yes. Starting from the 4th generation of Intel Core CPUs the Intel HD graphics unit can be used for reconstruction.

Q: The application doesn’t launch on hardware XY, what can I do?
A: Please check that your system meets the minimum requirements specified in section “Minimum system requirements” on our download page. Also make sure that your drivers are up to date.

License related questions:

Q: Can I have a demo license / free trial?
A: We offer an evaluation mode which contains all the features of the licensed version. Solely the export of models is disabled in the evaluation version. To test RecFusion/RecFusion Pro, just download the software from our webpage, install it and choose “Use evaluation version” on the program’s start. There is no demo version with export.

Q: I need to reset my license (another PC, hardware changed, OS reinstallation). How can I do that?
A: It is possible to deactivate your license and then re-activate it on the new machine/operating system. Please follow the instructions in section “Installation” from this page. If you are not able to de-activate the license yourself for some reason, you can contact us via license@recfusion.net and we will do it for you.

Q: My license key doesn’t work, what can I do?
A: Make sure that you don’t confuse the keys for RecFusion and RecFusion Pro. Another reason might be that the used version of the software was released more than 12 months after the activation (you must use a version that was released within 12 month after you activated your license). In this case, you can either purchase the upgrade or install an older version of the software. Furthermore, make sure there are no spaces in the license key.

Q: What happens with updates that are released more than 12 months after the purchase?
A: You can still use the software, however none of the new updates will be available. If you wish to receive the updates, we offer a license upgrade for 50% of the current price. Just write an e-mail to license@recfusion.net to get the purchase instructions.

Q: Can I get a customized version of the software (e.g. branding, hardware integration, …)?
A: Yes. We can add custom features such as branding, hardware integration, upload of the mesh to a custom online service and other features to the software. Just send us a mail with your change request via license@recfusion.net and we will get back to you.
SDK related Questions:

Q: When using the RecFusion SDK, do I need to buy runtime licenses, when redistributing it inside a product?
A: Yes. Runtime licenses are required to deploy a solution developed with the SDK. Please contact us via license@recfusion.net for further inquiries.

Q: Can I get a RecFusion SDK which builds with VS 2017 Compiler?
A: RecFusion SDK has a C-based interface and therefore works with all VS versions.
Sensor related Questions:

Q: The sensor(s) is/are not recognized. What can I do?
A: Please make sure to have the latest driver for the sensor installed. When connecting multiple sensors to the same PC, make sure to have sufficient USB-bandwidth per sensor.

Q: Is Sensor XYZ supported?
A: We only support the sensors explicitly listed on our webpage. When support for a new sensor has been added it will be announced on the webpage.

Q: Which sensor should I use for small object scanning?
A: For small objects we recommend using the Intel RealSense SR300/SR305. You can find more information about different sensors here.

Q: Which sensors can you recommend? How does sensor x compare to sensor z?
A: We support only the sensors listed on our webpage. More detailed information about the different sensors are given in this post.

Q: Which sensor is best for body scanning?
A: We recommend using the Intel RealSense D415 for body scanning. You can find information about the different sensors here.

Multi-sensor setup related Questions:

Q: I want to build a multi-sensor setup. Are there any special considerations to take?
A: Please consider the following issues before constructing a multi-sensor setup:

  • The overlap in the area the sensors are observing should be as small as possible, since some sensors observing the same part of the scene interfere with each other leading to low quality measurements and missing data in the depth map.
  • When scanning with a turntable setup the scan should be started with the back of the person instead of the face, since misalignment errors which might occur when closing the loop are less obvious on the back than on the face.

Q: Why does my multisensor calibration not work with setup xy (point clouds not aligned)?
A: The most common error is the unsuccessful calibration. Please follow the instructions from section “Multi-Sensor Calibration” in our user guide.

Usage Questions:

Q: The scan fails (red status indicator)
A: A red status indicator can be caused by several situations. One possibility is that the reconstruction frame rate is too low in live mode. It should be above 10-15 fps for the reconstruction to work properly. A low reconstruction frame rate is caused by having too little processing power available on the GPU. In this case the volume resolution should be reduced. Also moving the camera very slowly can help. If all of this does not help it is recommended to record a sequence and reconstruct it offline.

Another possibility for reconstruction failures is that the scene is mostly composed of planar objects (e.g. table top, walls …). In this case it can be helpful to place additional non-planar objects in the scene to allow the reconstruction algorithm to better locate the camera. The additional objects can be removed from the scan during post-processing. It is also important to always keep the camera directed at the reconstruction volume (there should be lots of green areas in the depth view). When leaving the reconstruction volume the reconstruction has to be reinitialized which can fail in some cases.

Q: Reconstruction doesn’t work (empty 3D view), what can I do?
A: The most common reason is that the reconstruction volume doesn’t contain the reconstruction object. Please follow the instructions in our user guide with the focus on the section “Reconstruction Settings”.

Q: Texture quality is not good, what can I do?
A: Some images used for texturing might be misaligned or blurry. Use the keyframe preview to remove some of such frames that might contribute to problems in a final texture. Follow instructions in section “Keyframe preview” in our user guide. Furthermore, make sure that the object is lit equally from all sides. In a multi-sensor setup we recommend to set color exposure and white balance of all sensors to the same fixed value, so that the color of the object stays consistent across the frames from different sensors.
